Over the last few months of 1900 and the early months of 1901, de Wet and more especially President Marthinus Steyn of the Orange Free State Republic were engaged in reorganizing their demoralized commandos. By the middle of 1901 the British were throwing much of their considerable resources into attempts to corner de Wet as well as the Free State government.
