The survivors had their picture taken too – probably when they had all returned to New Zealand. William Roddick’s name appears on the headstone on his mother’s grave in Timaru, New Zealand. Only a monument since he was interred at Langverwacht and now surely lies in the garden of Remembrance in Vrede with his comrades. All the pictures of the casualties and the fallen are by kind permission of the Canterbury Museum in Christchurch.
