The
survivors had their picture taken too – probably when they had all returned to
New Zealand. William Roddick’s name appears on the headstone on his mother’s
grave in Timaru, New Zealand. Only a monument since he was interred at
Langverwacht and now surely lies in the garden of Remembrance in Vrede with his
comrades. All the pictures of the casualties and the fallen are by kind
permission of the Canterbury Museum in Christchurch.
